How to face that period sustainably? There are many new options like the use of menstrual cups or washable cloth pads.
When we look at them, firstly we can get impressed by the “high-cost”, considering that one of them can cost around 10€ each. It has the same function and structure a disposable waste. On the contrary, the washable one can perform in a huge number of situations because it does not last only one time.

This is a good solution for many reasons: health, Earth and saves money.

First, by using this kind of solution there will not be any woman allergic to synthetic ingredients, fragrances and plastics like in disposable because they are mainly produced in cotton. Therefore they are hypoallergenic. In addition, the use of chemical products in disposable paths can lead to the production of a very dangerous substance which is dioxin. The latter can cause health problems as reproductive, developmental, immunological and glandular effects.

Second, consider that each woman generates around 123 kg of menstrual waste. And each of them takes around 800 years to degrade. Therefore, solutions as such are the best way to avoid the use of useless waste.

Third, consider that the average a woman spends on disposable pads per year is around 22£, the washable solution is far from being expensive. They last more or less 75 washes and to get them the amount is around 40£ per four years.

Many brands have been converted to this more eco-friendly solution. One of them that I would like to talk about is “Ecofemme”. It is an Indian project made to empower women in difficulty. By buying their washing pads, you can support the holistic menstrual health education to girls and women from the Indian low-class, provide a living wage for rural women and of course choose an eco-friendly way to face out that specific period.

And last but not least, what product for a woman better done than the one made by women for women?

It is a very interesting and important project that in its simplicity can lead to the spread of culture and to the magnificent feeling of knowing that you are doing the right thing to help whatever surrounds us.

Salento is a region collocated in Southern Italy, particularly in the territory of Apulia. It is a historical and popular destination, that in these last years benefited of a huge amount of tourists all around the world. It is exactly the end of Italy, in what usually is called the “heel” of Italy. The territory of Salento extends from the city of Brindisi (its borders) till the end of Apulia, including also Taranto.

Firstly, the region was called “Messapia”, meaning a territory “amid waters”. Many characteristics merge to render it a unique destination. The colour of its soil for instance is a “warm red” due to a particular composition of aluminium, clay, quartz, iron hydroxide and so on. Going ahead, you can also find short dry stone walls (first buildings appeared in the territory) used to delimit plots of lands and pastures and thousand-year-old olive trees, that assumed a bind shape. In addition to buildings, there are the so-called “place”, a sort of house in a truncated cone shape dating back to the year 1000.

Furthermore, another peculiarity of this destination is the language spoken, the Griko dialect. It is classified as having Hellenic roots and being partially mutually intelligible (meaning that two different but close languages can be understood each other) with Standard Modern Greek. However, it is recognized as a minority and natural language. There are many hypotheses about the origins and the influences the language had to get to this point.

The two main hypotheses concern the Magno-Greek and the Byzantine possibilities. In the first one, the roman conquest is not taken into account and, according to Morosi, the language took its origins from the Byzantines period. Whereas in the second possibility, Rohlfs argues that Griko Salentino has been spoken from the Greek period onwards in a sort of continuum.

The surviving communities nowadays are limited: mostly in Calabria ( in this case, it is called “Calabrian dialect of Greek or Grecanico” and it is spoken in the territory of Bovespa) and Apulia (Province of Lecce). The latter comprises the Grecìa Salentina region, composed by Calimera, Martano, Castrignano de’ Greci, Corigliano d’Otranto, Melpignano, Soleto, Sternatia, Zollino, Martignano).

According to Unesco, Griko is considered a severely endangered language, that is to say, that the language had just 20.000 speakers. Moreover, the Italian constitution recognised it as an important heritage of Italian history. Therefore, particularly under the art.6, the Italian Republic has the goal to protect minority languages as such with specific laws and to guarantee lifelong learning. This specific article (n.6) belongs to the fundamental principles of the Italian constitution.

In addition to that, courses are done specifically on the occasion of traditional festivals or by the different districts. This year for example a course of Griko, lasting from the 16th to the 22nd August, was held in Melpignano (Province of Lecce).
Even if there are people who invest time in keeping the tradition, it is not easy and it is sad to know that a millennial heritage as such is disappearing.

A basic test to check if your green vegetables are debased

Green verdant vegetables are extraordinary for our wellbeing and prosperity. Yet, imagine a scenario in which we disclose to you that the new greens you are getting from the market may be contaminated.

It very well may be precarious to see if the green vegetables you are getting from the market are new and unadulterated. Yet, it’s fundamental to discover as corrupted vegetables can cause different medical problems and convey cancer-causing impacts. In this way, in case you are considering how to identify even the smallest hint of debasement in the greens that you have, here is a basic stunt by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to distinguish malachite green defilement in green vegetables.

What is malachite green?

A material colour, malachite green has been utilized widely as an antiprotozoal and antifungal drug for fish, as indicated by sciencedirect.com.

As indicated by the site, it is generally utilized in hydroponics as a parasiticide, and in food, wellbeing, material, and different ventures for either purpose. “It controls contagious assaults, protozoan contaminations and some different infections brought about by helminths on a wide assortment of fish and other oceanic organic entities,” it read. It is additionally used to make vegetables like chillies, peas, and spinach lush green.

Here is a video posted by FSSAI on Twitter to bring issues to light about recognizing debasement in green vegetables.

For what reason is it hazardous?

As per the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the harmfulness of the colour increments with openness time, fixation and temperature. It can cause carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, chromosomal cracks, teratogenicity and respiratory harmfulness; which can even prompt multiorgan tissue injury.

How many diets do we know? There are lots which swear to give you the right weight to make you happy, to make you feel right in the society we are living in. Mostly, we find the diet to lose weight. They usually have a yo-yo effect: it means that you lose weight and, after a period, you get it back, just because the diet isn’t correct for the metabolism.

In nutrition, the term “diet” comes from the Latin greek-calque “data” meaning “lifestyle”. It means that the person should be able to feel well, calm and have high energy. A wrong diet concerns an incorrect relationship with food. Sometimes, these thoughts lead to an obsession, thus the relationship with food becomes controversial. It entails eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia for example.

These disorders increased during the second half of the Twentieth Century, mainly due to historical and political changes that lead to anthropological variations in society.

Thus it is very important to turn to an expert. Lately, there are not only the figures of nutritionists and dietitians. In addition, the psychologist nutritionist makes the way. As a result of the approach, a person uses when dieting. Not to mention that eating is the most important vital gesture (in addition, to breathing) that is being at stake.

The most noteworthy thing to bear in mind is not to fix a specific number to measure our weight. But to eat the correct amount of food to have the right energy to face out the day.

Usually, the diet is seen as a privation. Therefore, the only day when the diet can be missed is the one in which the person feels that eating everything is allowed. The brain thinks it should eat every single thing it wants. As a result, after a bit of day, the person is in the situation to give up, being back at the start.

It has been created strategies to “help” maintain the diet such as proactive strategies, keep the distance from tempting situations for example.

That is to say that the dietary paper has a high impact on the person who is trying to follow it. We have so many instructions: eating citrus fruits help c vitamin, vegetables help many vitamins and so on. These ideas create a sort of pressure in thinking constantly is it is the right way to eat that specific product? Or how much it is allowed to eat? Am I doing right?

That is to say that it is quite important to follow a specific path a professional gives us to have the energy and the correct approach to “face out” food. Especially, in the case of specific allergies, when dieting by ourselves, we may not gain enough nourishment.

A huge and interesting world is the one concerning pens. They are an instrument used from the beginning, of course with a different shape from the one we see today. Nowadays, many brands create numerous styles of writing, designs and materials. Among these, it stands out as “Aurora penne”.

It is a well-known Italian brand of pens born in 1919 in Turin (Italy) by Isaia Levi. The name recalls a rebirth after the war. In English, the term “aurora” means “dawn”, “sunrise”. Their first engagement was fountain pens.

It is a Made in Italy brand known for the high-quality standard of manufacturing.

During the 20s, they introduced a new material for pens. Instead of using ebonite, it is launched celluloid, a plastic material.

During the 40s, the Italian designer Marcello Nizzoli created the “88”, a pen so much loved still in production.

In the 50s, the “Duo Cart” is launched by the designer Albe Steiner. He also gave birth to the famous “Auretta”, considered a pen for students due to its low price.

During the 70s, Marco Zanuso designed the two models exposed at the MOMA of New York, the Hastil and the Thesis.
And many others like the Ipsilon, the Leonardo Da Vinci and the Talentum.

An interesting particular is the mechanism of their fountain pen, which is patented. It is the “hidden reserve”, meaning that even if the ink runs out, there is this “secret” ink placed inside that helps the person write more or less for at least two sheets of paper. In addition, they also use the “piston loading”, so filling up the pen from the nib. The latter could be made in different materials such as 14 or 18 carats gold and steel.

However, the brand is known at the international level, all around the world more than 50 countries. Even if its export is around 52% of the sales volume, Aurora is still an artisan manufacturing. This is the reason why pens are made mostly upon request.

Therefore, if you would like to have a piece of Italian history you should wait a bit to be made. Especially you are interested in the “Diamante” pen: it is the most expensive pen in the world, with De Beers certified diamonds (1.919 in total for 30 carats). The pen is made of gold and platinum and it is inspired by the light of the sun: from the dawn to the sunset. There is only one piece at the moment. The estimated price is around £1.10 million, more than a Ferrari.

However, the pandemic seems not to have altered too much the business: the company decreased by 3,7%. The fact is that Aurora concerns products of niche that are growing in requests. COVID-19 feels like have changed people’s mind: they look more at particular hobbies, products and requests. That could be the reason why brands like Aurora did not feel too much the pressure of pandemic. It is a particular world in which history and artisan manufacturing fund together. The care in producing a refined piece of art, choosing so many different materials: this is Aurora, synonymous with high-manufactory Made in Italy.
