Earlier this year, everyone discussed the terrible death of Sarah Everard, a girl who disappeared after leaving a friend’s house.
Labour introduces several new offences against women to protect them in workplaces, online and at home. Street harassment, making misogyny a hate crime and banning sex for rent have been prohibited. The main aim of the Green Paper is to limit the misogyny that supports the abuse that both, women and girls, face at school, at home, at the workplace, and online.
According to Jess Phillips, violence against women was defined by the UK government as a rare crime.
Labour party accused of “treating victims of violence as an afterthought” based on how Boris Johnson’s government handled the Sarah Evard situation. As a consequence, the Labour party placed a policy paper to strengthen sanctions for domestic abuse.

New Proposals include:
The Green Paper’s aim is to strengthen sentences for stalking, rape and domestic murder. It requires reviewing sentencing for every type of domestic abuse and establishing whole life sanctions for people who rape and murder an unknown person. The Labour party claim the minimum tariff for rape should amount to seven years. On the other hand, whole-life sentences would be introduced for those who rape, abduct and murder a stranger.
Moreover, it aims to remove barriers to legal aid for domestic violence cases for refugees and asylum seekers.
Street harassment is undoubtedly something deeply wrong that can strongly hurt women, but how can we stop it?

Statistics
Statistics show that two women are killed by their partners every week in England and Wales. As England prohibited marital rape only in 1994, it is no surprise that there is some drawback in this area.
David Lammy, the Shadow Secretary of State for Justice, affirmed that 7 in 10 women in the UK believe the government is not making any effort to protect women in the country. Additionally, he stated that the Conservatives are lacking to safeguard both women and girls from crimes, even though it should be a very important duty for the government.

Political aspects
It is impossible to forget the crucial reason behind the introduction of the Green Paper, which is the political aim the Labour wants to achieve. This paper underlines the inefficiency of the police and their ability to deal with crimes and attempts to improve British female life and change the sentencing system in the UK. It will be hard to prohibit street harassment as it is not something easy to control. Hopefully, the Green Paper will limit both domestic violence and extra-domestic violence.
